This site is run by Make Things That Matter LLC, which is responsible for the data described here. This page explains what it collects, why, and what you can do about it. Questions or requests go to info@makethingsthatmatter.com.

What the site collects

What you send me. When you use the contact form, your name, email, LinkedIn profile and message go to Netlify, which hosts the site and delivers the form to me. I use them to reply to you.

Your email, if you subscribe. The newsletter signup is run by Substack. If you subscribe, Substack holds your email and sends the newsletter. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Advertising. With your permission where it’s required (see below), the site uses the Google Ads tag and the Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram). They use cookies and similar tools to record visits and clicks on the links to my book. That lets me measure my ads and show ads to people who have visited this site. Google and Meta may combine this with other data they hold about you, under their own privacy policies.

Server logs. The site is hosted on Netlify, which logs basic request data such as IP address and browser type, as most web hosts do. Netlify also tells the site which country you’re visiting from, so it knows whether to ask for consent first. The site stores only the result (for example “ask first”), not your IP address or location.

Fonts and embeds. Pages load fonts from Google Fonts, and the Leadership Nudges page loads its signup form from Substack. Like any embedded content, those services receive your IP address and browser details when the page loads. The signup field on the home page sends your email straight to Substack when you press Subscribe.

Where you end up when you buy the book

“Get the book” links go to thestrategycycle.com, then through Geniuslink, which sends you to the right Amazon store for your country. Geniuslink and Amazon each have their own privacy policies. I don’t see what you buy.

Book links here are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.

Visitors in Europe, the UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, or the site can’t tell where you are, the advertising tags don’t load unless you click Accept in the cookie banner. Elsewhere they load by default, and you can switch them off with Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. The tags never load if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal.

Your choices

  • Use to accept or turn off the advertising tags on this site.
  • Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser to switch them off everywhere it’s supported.
  • Unsubscribe from email with the link at the bottom of any message.
  • Manage Google ads at My Ad Center.
  • Manage Meta ads in your Facebook ad preferences.
  • Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them.
  • Email info@makethingsthatmatter.com to see, correct or delete the data I hold about you.

If you’re in the EU, UK or Switzerland

I use ad cookies only with your consent, which you can withdraw anytime in . I use contact-form messages to reply to you, and server logs to keep the site running and secure. I keep messages as long as I need them to reply and for normal business records. Google keeps ad audiences for up to 540 days, Meta for up to 180. My providers are in the US, so your data goes there. You can also object to or limit how I use your data, get a copy of it, and complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

This site is meant for working professionals and isn’t aimed at children under 13.
